Last year's Barnstormers Tour was a great success! We are already
hard at work planning the 2012 Barn Tour on Saturday, June 9th.
Annual Barnstormers Tour and Paint Out
Last year's 5th annual Barnstormer's Tour was a great success! Barn Tour hours were from 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. Barn Tour tickets were $15 each adult. Children under 16 free. The event is an annual fund-raiser to increase awareness and inspire a passion for the older barns of Frederick County. "The Barns of Glade Valley" were featured on the 2011 tour. Five barns around Walkersville and four barns in the Woodsboro area, including one converted to a lovely home, were on the tour. Many interesting farm animals were observed close-up, including long-horned cattle, donkeys, chickens, draft horses, and mules. Docents were stationed at each barn to provide interesting details about each historic structure.
Maryland Public Television filmed during the event for an upcoming documentary about the barns of Maryland. The show will air on February 29th, 2012 at 8 p.m.
Forty artists from three states painted the barns, and an art show/sale and reception was held after the tour. The art was judged by Pennsylvania artist Mark Brockman. The beautiful paintings done during the day were offered for sale and many were sold! A portion of the proceeds from the sale of artwork benefits Frederick County Landmarks Foundation.
Old-time music was provided by the Sugar loafers.
In 2012, the date of the Tour and Paint-Out is Saturday, June 9th.
The location of the tour will be in the Buckeystown-Adamstown region. Barn Tour hours will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $15 per adult, children ages 16 and under free. Barn Tour tickets will be sold by the Tourism Council of Frederick County, 301-600-2888, Schifferstadt Architectural Museum, 301-668-6088, Bodmer's Stove Shop, Buckeystown, 301-662-0777, and at each barn beginning at 10 a.m. on the day of the tour.
If you would like to participate in the 2012 Barnstormers Tour And Paint-Out as an artist or barn docent, or wish to help on the committee, contact Harry Richardson at HLRichart@comcast.net
